His gaffe came when he tried to show the fickle side of supporters by posting two screenshots from the same supporter, one sending him Christmas wishes and the other declaring he had ruined the club.

But Hardy inadvertently included his phone̢۪s camera roll of recent pictures, and one contained an intimate image.

He apologised for the incident but insisted neither the gaffe nor County̢۪s league position had any influence on his decision.

Hardy posted an update on the club̢۪s website on Thursday.

â€Å“I am pleased to confirm I have accepted an offer to purchase Notts County Football Club from a very credible party, who is now undertaking due diligence,” he wrote.

â€Å“As expected, there has been a huge level of interest in the club and I am delighted that we are now at an advanced stage with people who I am confident have Notts County’s best interests at heart.

â€Å“They must be given the time and privacy to carry out their checks properly but, as soon as I can reveal more, I will provide a further update.

â€Å“I would also like to assure staff and supporters that, in light of recent conjecture, the money for April’s wages has already been transferred to the bank for payment.

â€Å“As for the debt owed to HMRC, I am expecting this to be paid in full by early May with the approval of the High Court next Wednesday.

â€Å“I hope these updates will be reassuring to everyone connected with the club, whose concerns are understandable during this time of change.”

Notts County are currently 23rd in League Two and in danger of dropping out the EFL entirely and into the National League.

They are seven points from safety with six matches left to play, and only a single point ahead of bottom club Macclesfield.
