The defender left Elland Road in a leg brace, with the scans revealing the club’s worst fears.

Douglas will be out of action for up to 12 weeks, with the recovery period therefore ruling him out of the Championship run-in.

The news comes as a big blow to Marcelo Bielsa’s men, who are two points clear of third place Sheffield United in the race for automatic promotion.

Douglas, a £3million signing from Wolves in 2018, is on the verge of a second successive promotion from the second tier having been part of Nuno Santo’s title-winning squad last season.

The 29-year-old has featured 27 times during his debut campaign for the Whites, contributing five assists along the way.

Next up for Bielsa’s men is a trip to Birmingham on Saturday, followed by a midweek game at Preston three days later.
