Thousands of people falsely believed they had scooped tickets to the Champions League final after a mistake from retail giants Zavvi.
The entertainment firm were hosting a competition with Mastercard, offering one lucky fan a VIP ticket to Madrid to watch Liverpool vs Tottenham on June 1.
But the company were forced to apologise after a technical problem saw them send congratulations emails to all of their subscribers.
Mastercard, who hold no responsibility for the malfunction, hit out at the retail firm and urged them to fix the problem immediately.

A spokesperson said: “We are extremely disappointed with today’s events and our sympathies go to the many people who were wrongly contacted by Zavvi in connection to their competition.
“We have asked Zavvi to clarify how they are resolving as a matter of urgency.”
Zavvi said in a tweet: “Apologies, we’re aware of the problem regarding the recent Mastercard Competition.
“We seem to have had some technical issues and we’re currently looking into this.”

Zavvi had run the competition between April 23-May 6 – before this week’s thrilling semi-finals.
First, Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 to overturn a three-goal deficit from the first-leg, before Lucas Moura’s second-half hat-trick saw Spurs also come back from three goals down in Amsterdam.
