Callum Hudson-Odoi told talkSPORT he was inspired by Jadon Sancho̢۪s journey to England team, after the Chelsea starlet made his senior Three Lions debut on Friday night.
Hudson-Odoi received a late call-up to Gareth Southgate̢۪s squad this week, and came off the bench in England̢۪s emphatic 5-0 victory over the Czech Republic in their Euro 2020 qualifying opener.
By doing so, the 18-year-old became the youngest Englishman in history to earn his first senior cap in a competitive game.
He finished the match at Wembley Stadium playing on the opposite wing to fellow teen star Sancho, who he has kept a close eye on this season.
Sancho decided to leave Manchester City for German club Borussia Dortmund in 2017 after becoming frustrated by his lack of first-team opportunities at the Etihad Stadium – and his move had paid dividends.
The 18-year-old has been in stunning form this season – with nine goals and 17 assists in 35 games for the Bundesliga side – and has been rewarded with a place in England’s last two squads, making four appearances.
And, asked if he took inspiration from Sancho’s path to the team, Hudson-Odoi told talkSPORT’s England correspondent Nigel Adderley: â€Å“Yeah definitely.
â€Å“Sancho has played so well this season. I’ve been watching him, so to come on the pitch and play with him and link up with him. It was absolutely amazing, a great feeling.
â€Å“Playing two youth players, it’s massive for England and the youth set up. Everyone is trying to push the youth to come through, which is amazing.
