Troy Deeney EXCLUSIVE: ‘Watford’s FA Cup semi-final against Wolves doesn’t excite me that much’

Troy Deeney admits the FA Cup does not excite him and insists there is nothing special about Watford’s semi-final against Wolves on Sunday.

The Hornets have a rare opportunity to reach the final and win the competition, with Manchester City the only top-six side left – but Deeney is treating the fixture like any other game.

Troy Deeney wants more respect for Watford

“I’ve played in an FA Cup semi-final before, so I wouldn’t say it’s the biggest game of my career,” he told talkSPORT.

“I’ve got a weird feeling about this one; it doesn’t excite me too much, it doesn’t make me go, ‘Ah!’ It’s just another game.

“We’ve had two games this week, I’m knackered. I’m literally just preparing like it’s another game.”

talkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams takes issue with this, pointing out that the FA Cup has never been more winnable for ‘a team like Watford’ and silverware could cement Deeney’s legacy at the club.

The Hornets captain interjects: “What do you mean ‘a team like Watford’?”

Moose explains he means a team outside the top six, but the Hornets skipper argues that his club don’t get the respect they deserve.

Watford are enjoying a fine season

Watford are enjoying a fine season

Watford have already surpassed their best ever points tally for a Premier League season – and currently sit eighth in the table.

“I’m just a weird person, I’m not the person who goes, ‘It’s the semi-final now!’

“I just want people to understand the perspective. People always say it’s a big occasion for teams outside the top six, but we’re trying to get in this situation more regularly.

“We don’t see it as a one-off, we see it as another building block. I’ve got a little thing lately where I see comments about Watford and it irritates me a little bit.

“We’re not a bad outfit, you’ve got to start respecting us. People like Will Hughes should be in the England team. He won’t say it, but I will.

“All jokes aside, we’ve got quality operators here, but we’re seen as this long-ball team.”
