Chris Hughton EXCLUSIVE: Brighton hopeful of upsetting Manchester City as Premier League title race with Liverpool goes to the wire

Brighton players are looking forward to their ‘wonderful opportunity’ to have a huge impact on the Premier League title race this weekend, manager Chris Hughton has told talkSPORT.

The south coast club host Manchester City in Sunday’s season finale, where victory for Pep Guardiola’s side will see them crowned champions for the second year running.

Anything less than three points at the Amex Stadium, though, will see Liverpool end their long wait for the title, as long as they beat Wolves in their final game of a thrilling campaign.

It means Kopites will be Brighton fans for the day, with the red half of Merseyside hoping and praying the Seagulls can cause a massive upset against their title rivals.

And, after drawing against Arsenal last weekend to guarantee another season of Premier League football, Hughton says his team will go into the City clash with high spirits and dreaming of an unlikely result.

REVEALED: Where the real Premier League trophy will be in Sunday’s finale

“We have a wonderful opportunity in tomorrow’s game to have a big bearing on who will win the league, and that’s great for the club,” said the Brighton boss, speaking on Saturday’s Weekend Sports Breakfast.

“Generally most people don’t expect us to win. Realistically most people wouldn’t expect us to get close to a team that, with Liverpool, have been absolutely outstanding this season.

“And, as we found last week against Leicester, they always seem to find a way to win.

“When you’re playing against the top six, particularly against Liverpool and Man City this season, there is always a bit of nervousness because we know on a bad a day what they can do.

“But we’ve been closer against the top six this season, no one has really run away with scorelines against us.

“This is probably the game where we’ve recovered the most and we’re in decent form going into it, on the back of a really good away performance at Arsenal, which gives us more of a chance mentally.

“So the pressure is off us.

“I don’t think there would be any of my players who wouldn’t be really looking forward to the challenge of this game.”
