Celtic boss Neil Lennon lamented the decision to only award Jon Flanagan a yellow card after appearing to elbow Scott Brown.
Rangers set down a marker ahead of the Hoops’ attempt to win their ninth straight title next season as they sealed a dominant 2-0 victory in the final Old Firm clash of the campaign.
Captain James Tavernier swept home a free-kick just moments after kick-off to give the Gers the perfect start.
The Parkhead triple treble chasers looked like they had their minds elsewhere and paid the price when Scott Arfield wrapped up the win midway through the second half.
Steven Gerrard‘s team dominated proceedings before the break, although they were lucky not to go down to 10 men six minutes into the second half when Jon Flanagan appeared to elbow Scott Brown – making his 500th start for Celtic – in the area while they waited for a corner to come in.
Referee Kevin Clancy caught the incident, as he booked Flanagan, although he cannot have seen it in full, otherwise the Rangers defender would have surely seen red.

And Lennon, whose future in Glasgow remains unclear, blamed the referee for only showing a yellow card and not awarding a penalty.
“Totally unacceptable…unacceptable for the referee not to give a red card,” he said.
“I’m not distracting away from the rest of the game when we were second best, but the laws of the game are it’s a red card”
