Lionel Messi admitted the Champions League defeat to Liverpool was one of the ‘worst moments’ of his entire career.
Barcelona threw away a three goal first leg lead in their semi-final with the Reds earlier this month.
The LaLiga side were beaten 4-0 at Anfield to crash out of the competition.
Messi wants to win the Copa del Rey with Barcelona to ease the pain of that defeat and they will face Valencia at 8pm on Saturday.
“We were hit hard by it,” Messi said speaking at his first news conference in five years.
“Winning the Copa del Rey will be the best way to end the season.
“We have to apologise for the second half of the match at Liverpool [when they conceded three goals in the 4-3 aggregate loss] not because of the result, but because of how it looked and that we didn’t compete. It was one of the worst experiences in my career.”

The 31-year-old was also asked about his future at the Nou Camp and whether he was considering leaving the club.
He added: ”No, no, no. I have had problems with the national team and I still want to keep trying to win something there. The Champions League exit does not make me lose my desire to be here.”
Messi stands to win his 21st major trophy with the Catalan club if they beat Valencia on Saturday.
