How much is the Championship play-off final REALLY worth? Aston Villa and Derby face off in football’s richest game

Aston Villa and Derby County face off in the Championship play-off final – but just how much is winning it really worth?

Often dubbed the richest game in football, Premier League promotion will bring either club a huge injection of cash as well as the chance to play against some of the world’s best next season.

Norwich and Sheffield United have already secured their promotion and will gain the riches that come with it.

But for Aston Villa and Derby, they face a Wembley showdown to decide who will join them.

How much is the Championship play-off final REALLY worth?

The winners of Monday’s clash are set to pocket an additional revenue of at least £170million across the next three seasons.

As Sky Sports report, that figure is a combination of two main things.

Firstly, the play-off winners will gain the extra revenue from playing in the Premier League, expected to be approximately £95m.

And secondly, they’ll get parachute payments in 2020/21 and 2021/22 should they be relegated which would total to around £75m across the two seasons.

The money will go up even more if Villa or Derby can stay in the top-flight beyond next season.

The previous figures would increase to around £300m for being in the top-flight while parachute payments would go over the £100m mark.
